About Lifestyle Medicine

What is lifestyle medicine?

Lifestyle medicine is a board-certified medical specialty that uses therapeutic lifestyle changes — like diet, physical activity, sleep, stress management, and social connection — to prevent, treat, and often reverse chronic disease.

It is evidence-based and practiced by licensed physicians trained to identify and treat the root cause of illness, rather than just managing symptoms with medications.

While conventional medicine often relies on prescriptions to manage symptoms, lifestyle medicine uses evidence-based lifestyle interventions to treat the root cause of disease. Interventions include diet, movement, stress management, sleep, social connections, and avoiding toxic substances.

Our doctors are also trained in conventional care and will prescribe medication when needed — but always with the goal of helping your body heal naturally whenever possible.

That depends on your condition and how consistent your changes are — but many patients begin seeing measurable improvements in labs, symptoms, and energy levels within a few weeks. Long-term improvements (like reversing diabetes or heart disease) can take months of steady progress, and we’ll support you every step of the way.

Yes. Lifestyle medicine is grounded in decades of high-quality research published in leading medical journals. It’s now a board-certified medical specialty and is recognized by organizations like the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and the American Medical Association.

You’ll meet one-on-one with a physician who will:

Review your medical history and lifestyle habits,

Go over recent labs or order new ones

Identify root causes of symptoms or conditions

Create a tailored plan to help you heal — using nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management, and more

Provide follow-up recommendations and support options

Absolutely. Many of our patients are generally healthy but want help optimizing longevity, energy, weight, or lab markers. Our approach works just as well for prevention and performance as it does for treatment.

About Telemedicine

All you need is a smartphone, tablet, or computer with internet access. You’ll log into your secure patient portal for your video appointment — it works much like Zoom or FaceTime, but is fully HIPAA-compliant.

Yes. Your doctor can order lab work as part of your visit. You’ll go to a nearby lab (we work with national partners including both Quest and Labcorp), and your results will be reviewed in detail during your follow-up appointment.

Generally, yes. Our doctors are each licensed to practice in multiple states. Combined they are licensed to see patients in most, if not all 50 U.S. states and Washington D.C..  Since the doctors operate virtually — you can receive high-quality care from anywhere in the country.

Not directly. We are an out-of-network provider, which allows us to spend more time with you and offer care without the limitations of insurance systems. You can use HSA/FSA funds, and we provide superbills upon request for potential out-of-network reimbursement.

You get more time, more attention, and more personalized care. Our appointments are 30 or 60 minutes, all one-on-one time with your doctor, allowing you to really understand each other and your health, goals, and lifestyle. This leads to better long-term outcomes and a more empowering care experience.

We work hard to keep appointments as affordable as possible.  A 30-minute appointment costs $175 and a 60-minute appointment costs $350.  After your visit we will provide you with a superbill ready for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.  We unfortunately cannot accurately predict how much you may or may not be reimbursed, that will depend on your condition, and the details of your health insurance plan.

About Whole Food Plant-Based Nutrition

No. Our doctors specialize in plant-based nutrition and often recommend it because of its many health benefits — but they do not require a fully plant-based diet. We support any eating pattern that aligns with your goals and is based in whole, minimally processed foods.

Our approach is highly individualized. We don’t give one-size-fits-all meal plans. Instead, we work with you to identify realistic, sustainable changes and troubleshoot obstacles — whether it’s insulin resistance, emotional eating, nutrient deficiencies, or time constraints, we aim to help you to figure out what is best for you individually.

Yes. We meet you where you are, and help you to decide where to go from there. Whether your goal is to cut back on processed foods, eat more vegetables, improve digestion, manage blood sugar, or reduce inflammation, we’ll tailor your nutrition plan to your needs and preferences.

Yes. Research shows that whole food, plant-based diets can help reverse or significantly improve conditions like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, autoimmune conditions, and much more — especially when combined with other lifestyle behaviors.

Only if it’s necessary for your health goals or medical condition. We are not the food police, and we don’t impose rigid rules — instead, we offer personalized, evidence-informed recommendations that match your lifestyle and preferences.

Yes. While we don’t provide specific coaching services at this time, our doctors can recommend meal frameworks, recipe ideas, and strategies for easier grocery shopping, food prep, and dining out — especially helpful for patients transitioning to a healthier way of eating.
